I just got my computer back from the shop. It had a ton of viruses removed. When I fired it up, I noticed that my desktop had changed. It was now just a plain blue background. I went into display properties to change the settings as the resolution had changed as well. I got the resolution changed, no problem, but the desktop would not allow me to change it at all. The drivers appear to be working fine.
I am running a HP Pavilion
AMD Atholon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
the os is xp media center edition
I'm not sure if that helps or not?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Do you get any errors when you go into that same display popup to change the background? Does it allow you to change it, click okay but then it never changes?

Depending on how they removed the viruses, your OS may have been damaged, too. Try Osiris's guide first, but you may need to perform a repair install.

To answer Lexluethar, there is no error messege of any sort. It simply will not let me click on the different themes in the box. The only I can do is change the colour.
I will run the hijackthis scan now

try this:
Right click on DESKTOP
click: PROPERTIES > DESKTOP > CUSTOMIZE DESKTOP > WEB TAB > uncheck PRIVACY PROTECTION
