Wow, Im glad someone told me about that in FarCry, I thought I'd have to look at black sand until I finished it!
Anyone have any suggestions for a new cpu fan that does not sound like an aircraft engine?
And miller, yes too much thermal compound can do exactly that.
The 2 methods I've heard are...
1) Put about a grain of rice worth of AS5 on the middle of the CPU and then press the HS on top of it and assemble. It should spread out pretty evenly. This is what I did.
2) put a VERY THIN line of compound across on side of the CPU and use a razor or something else very thing to evenly wipe it across the entire surface of the CPU.
(Remember to wipe down both the top of the CPU and the heat sink w/ 90%+ isopropyl alcohol on a coffee filter for both applications).
