So I have the actual Windows XP Home Edition disc. I've already installed it but was wondering if I let my friend use the disc but use a different key since he doesnt have the disc. Is this possible?

As long as you have an OEM disc, and he has an OEM serial, or you have a Retail disc and he has a Retail serial (disc/key have to be the same type), then it will work. I've done this at work several times when a customer has forgotten their OS disc.

Yup, this is just fine. The key is the license for the product. The disc is just the installation media.

Make sure the friend's key is for the same product as your disc (XP Home Retail/OEM).

:::EDIT:::
Dang carnage, you're a quick one :p
Beat me to the submit button.
