Problem with patches

Any other programs you need you can manually start. Watch Java and QuickTime... they like to put themselves back in the lineup when you use them.

The problem is that most programs set themselves to start on boot. The writers decided that their product was so friggin' wonderful that you would not be able to live without it and they wanted to make it easy for you by having it start up on boot and run CONTINUOUSLY in the background.

Those seem fine, role back to an erlier patch if able, a black screen can indicate the actual game not loading, if you can hear sound then that is not the case; battlefield was produced with windows xp in mind, the whole "release now patch later", mindset is popular with some companies, the patch version may simply be bugged.

If it's anything like my old computer.

Try: Reinstalling Game, Install older patch (E.g 1.2/1.3), then install the 1.41 patch.

Did you even try this?

The full 1.41 patch is more stable than the cumulative patches.
