PC Freezes During/After Bootup

Hi.

My PC has started freezing at random times when I first start it up.

Sometimes it freezes during the Windows Boot up Screen and other times the PC will load up fine and I can use it for 10 - 15 mins before it freezes.
I then have to reset the computer and it usually (not always) works the 2nd time round.

If I'm able to use the PC for more than 20 mins after bootup without it freezing then I can be 99% sure that the PC will be fine from then on.

I had a similar problem about a month ago but it was much worse, it was freezing all the time, so I formatted the HD and reloaded Windows. I also Cleaned out the PC (dusted, cleaned filters etc), reseated all the cards and checked all the connections. This sorted the problem for a couple of weeks then it started freezing again.

I have checked my HD using HDTune and it hasn't found any errors.
The CPU temp runs at a fairly steady 40 C and all voltages are fairly healthy:
VCore - 1.4V
3.3 - 3.4V
+5 - 5.11V
+12 - 11.96V
Any ideas what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance

My PC Spec is:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1GB RAM
480W Thermaltake X power Supply
Windows XP Pro - SP3

I've posted this on other forums but still haven't had any useful advice although in fairness I haven't been able to post the screen shots that people have requested cos I dismantled the PC to give it a clean out. Tomorrow I'll be putting it back together but in the meantime I'd be very interested to hear anyone's opinion.

What infection protection do you use? What software do you use?

Well 3 things i would try.

1. Scan with our resident Spyware Guide.

Spyware Asylum

2. Run check disk on your system. Open My Computer. Right click on the C:\ Drive (Windows Drive) and select Properties. There under Tools you will see Error Checking. Select it and check all options. It will require a restart to perform.

3. Check you start programs via msconfig. Start>Run>msconfig and take a screen shot of it and post it via a hosting service like Imageshack or Photobucket.

i think you've got too many programs trying to start on startup which eat up your processing resources.. try disabling some of those...

Cheers Mak
I'm about to start going through your list now and I'll post the logs and screenshots shortly.
Why would the PC only use up too many resources the first time It starts (and sometimes 2nd) and not any subsequent times? Is that normal?
Thanks

Ok, The first problem...
Whilst running combofix, it reached 'stage 50' then flashed up a message that was too quick to see and then my computer crashed with a blue screen and error message that read:
'A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer
BAD_POOL_HEADER'
Its not a great start. I did notice before I started that it says combofix will not run on a 64 bit system. I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 but I'm not using a 64 bit version of windows. Would this cause the problem.
I'm gonna persevere with MalwareBytes.

And finally, the Startup List from Msconfig:

The list wouldn't fit on 1 page so I've taken 3 shots of the list and pasted them on to 1 page...

Thanks in advance

It might be worth mentioning that the PC crashed whilst running CheckDisk.
It crashed at 0% of Stage 2 - Verfying Indexes

It ran perfectly second time tho.
