Optical Drives

Hello
I was checking on Newegg for an optical drive and didn't know what kind to get. I wanted a DVD burner but my question is can I play DVD's on a DVD burner? I don't really want two drives, one for playing DVD and one for burning. Since I don't watch DVD's on my computer I rather get a DVD burner. What kind of DVD burner I should get? Also I want one that is Sata.

Yes...you can play DVDs on a DVD burner.

I've had success with LiteOn drives and my Artec hasn't failed me in the four years I've had it.

Lightscribe does look cool, though, so I might would buy one that has it- but the discs are pricy.

Speed isn't the issue. It's just that SATA drives are like plug'n'play.

In CD drives: 1X is 150KB/s. A 52X CD drive is 7800KB/s.
In DVD drives: 1X is 9 cd x's or 1350KB/s. So a 16X DVD is a 144X CD or 21.6 MB/s.
