money to blow, check this out

I just did some reading and found out the following:

USB 2.0 = 480 Megabits (Mb) per Second = 60 MBps
IEEE1394b = 800 Mbps = 100 MBps
ATA/100 = 100 MegaBytes (MB) per Second
ATA/133 = 133 MBps
SATA = 150 MBps

PCI 1.0 33mhz = 132 MBps *states that any HDD attached to a PCI card is limited, in total of all HDDs attached to the card, to 132 MBps*

So... I was misled by believing the idea that the HDD RAID unit would, in theory, produce 5x50MBps (5 SATA Raptors @ 50MBps each) to equal 250MBps throughput. Since the fastest connection available by this device is only 100MBps, it seems that would be the highest speed at which the information would transfer to your computer. Looking at the CPU specs I noticed that the CPU on the RAID unit is a 64 bit * 200mhz processor capable of 100MBps data processing. I believe this unit would only offer good use if your data is of extreme importance to you. If you wanted you could set up a RAID 0+1 with 4 drives and possibly get 100MBps transfer rates, which isn't bad but not worth the price. Hope that clears up a few misleading statements I may have made prior to this reply.
