Im looking for a good linux distrib to use. I usually do schoolwork, program in java and C++, and use it as a workstation. What ones do people recommend, and I can't stand windows anymore, so dont mention it. Im only keeping windows on a partition so i can play video games.

Im running Ubuntu, and I love it, but I haven't really used any others so I'm not sure which is best. I have heard that Slackware is good, too.

I wouldn't use the offical Mandiva site, instead I would use this

or
www.planetmirror.com.au

Knoppix

PCLinuxOS

BeatrIX

If your doing C++ Slackware or Debian would be good for you, follow the links the genral has supplied for both distros

you wont need to. just get the netinstall (its like 180 megs) thru http or ftp

then install from there

I think with debian you have to install KDE seperate don't you? For someone inexperienced with Linux that's a no no.

No, not true. Obviously you don't use it, so don't scare the guy off.
