Laptop audio not working..

Last night, I reformatted my laptop, I re-installed windows xp, I went to play some music and windows media player came up with an error; so I checked the "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the control panel and it said I had no audio devices... . Is there a program I can use to see what company my sound card is with so I can download the drivers? I remember before I reformatted that there was some kind of sound effects button which looked like this:

But I don't know where I could re-download it too.

go to www.windows-update.com and look at the updates for hardware, you may need to search around since M$ likes to make things difficult by trying to make them easy.

check "other devices" in Device Manager. What is there?

Here's what "other devices"

Search for drivers for your audio card, network card, and USB contoller on the internet or motherboard CD. When the drivers are found (hopefully), right click on each question mark, and click "update driver". Follow the steps to update the drivers, searching for them, etc.

The Other devices are devices that Windows couldnt find drivers for.
