Ok so I downloaded and installed Java Runtime Enviroment and Development kit.. I think I installed them anyways. Now I have no idea what I'm doing with Java but I'm starting it for school next sem and wanted to get a head start. All I know is I need those 2 programs... It didnt make a desktop icon or anything, I don't know how to open the program or if I am even suppose to open it? The readme's arn't helping I dont know how to get started.

You need to download an IDE (Integrated Development Environment). Basically what you installed is the classes and framework you'll need to make programs.
Once you get an IDE, you can write your code and then compile it.
EDIT: Eclipse is a good one to start with.
