Hello,
I own a 3 year old HP computer and I want to get better performance than this computer can achieve.
I have already upgraded my memory, video card and DVD burner. This computers motherboard doesnt even have an AGP slot, let alone a PSI-E slot so upgrading further is out of the question.
My Motherboard can only support 512 megs of RAM and I have thrown that in here. Honestly, I didnt even see a jump in performance when I did that anyway. It was recognized but slight in performance boost, so very slight.
My Processor is a sinlge core 2.4 ghz P4 and my Motherboard only supports an upgrade to 2.7. I also have to remain at a 2.7 single core CPU so that 300 MHZ jump would really add much to performance.
My DVD burner is great but my other system specs make it impossible to burn at anything higher than 4x and even then I get a skip or two in each DVD.
SO, here is my question:
Can I just buy a new Motherboard, compatible CPU and Memory to throw in this tower? I mean, just LITERALLY swap out my motherboard and keep all other components?
I undrstand that I would prolly have to re-install Windows but Im cool with that.
I Was looking into getting a good but now "top of the line" cpu/mobo combo. I was thinking of maybe an:
AMD 4800+ "Toledo" CPU
and put that into an
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe MOBO with a gig or two of 3200 DDR memory.
I figure it would GREATLY increase performance while doing it for as little as 500-600 bucks.
ANyone know or think this would work? Any kinks to iron out?
Thanks
