Internet problems

Im at a friends house, and I'm experiencing internet problems.

I dual boot Vista, and XP, and suprisingly Vista manages the itnernet fine, no problems. But when I go into XP (to play games) the internet stops working. I have tried repairing, and also using a NIC, and the ethernet in the motherboard. Any ideas.
