hi guys , i hope im posting in the right place .. i have 2 problems .. 1st is the torrent .. i hope there's a way to make it faster .. i mean like an application or modifying the firewall configuration of my router (3com wireless) .. 2nd is that im in a network of 4 people on 512kb dsl connection .. and the problem is that the wire is like 106 meteres from here to the router .. so when other people in the network are downloading something .. i cant even open my msn messenger cause the connection becomes too slow .. i hope there's a solution for that other than making the wire shorter .. (also when im alone in the network the max. i get is 25kb/s while i should get at least 50 kb/s) ..

well, I can't help you about the torrent, but I can help you about
your 2nd problem and the cord problem.
In fact, the matter you can't open sites or msn while other ppl
on your network downloading, it's normal since they're leacking
all the bandwidth. But, in order to make
sure you'll get the required bandwidth, whatever other ppl do,
download netlimiter. By using this program, you can
manage the bandwidth of your dsl. You can set a maximum
download speed so even if all pcs on your network are downloading,
you'll have the desired bandwidth to run your applications.
Keep in mind that you'll have to deactivate the netlimiter when
you'll be alone on the network in order to take full bandwidth.

As for the cable now, usualy cables doesn't affect the bandwidth.
Your cable, even if it's 106m long, it would slow you down only
1 or 2kb/s. However, make sure you're using the proper cable
for your network (like UTP Cat E5 crossover). Wrong cable can
cause extremely slow speeds.

well im using CAT5 wire .. but about the netlimiter .. can u be more detailed ? i mean how can i control other pcs' bandwith ? isnt there a firewall or something that can prevent that ?

with netlimiter you can set a maximum download speed.
for example, if the maximum speed your dsl can reach is 50kb/s,
you can set all network pcs to download with the maxium speed
of 17kb/s. So, let's say the other 2 pcs are downloading (you
have to install netlimiter in all pcs with the same settings), they
will download with maximum 17kb/s. So, 2 pcs with 17kb/s each=34kb/s. You'll have your 17kb/s for your applications!

Once you download the netlimiter, you'll understand what to do.
It has a list with the applications running. Select the application
used for downloading and set the download limit. It's easy..

But, the best you can do, is to set the master download limit to
17kb/s. If you do that, each pc will have to manage that 17kb/s
for all its needs (downloading, web pages etc)

i thought that i have to put it only on my pc .. thanks for the advice i'll try the program and see what happens .. are u sure there's no way to fix that torrent thing ?

theres this thing made by a company that speeds up your internet, i cant remeber the name, something with hawk in its name, maybe blackhawk?

well,I know nothing about torrents...so I can't really help you.
I don't even know if's server based or p2p...I know nothing!
I got a friend who use torrents...I'll ask him tomorow and if he
can give any good hint, I'll post it here asap!
