We have just purchased a new building and just had a new broadband line fitted. The problem is the data network has been removed physically by the past occupants. There was a box, perhaps rack, patch panel and they are all gone. Plus the RJ45 cables have been cut. Luckily we have a data network engineer fitting the data network back, but what do I need to tell them so that we have have broadband on our network?

I am not much of a network bod, but in the rooms it shows there are points in the room showing two rj45 sockects per point. We would hope that if a computer was connected to one of these points, then they can pick up the internet.

Thanks in advance

The data network engineer should know exactly how to do this. It's very simple! Just make sure that he knows that you want the Internet fed into the regular data network!

Good Luck!

Having a network engineer on hand is a blessing...he/she will be able to get it all sorted out and they should be familiar with feeding an internet connection into your network....there is no real easy answer here because it depends how complex the network will be that determines how its configured and the internet is brought in...we have an enterprise level type setup so have many routers and firewalls, and DMZ's and such in place...but so long as your network engineer is a good one this will be another walk in the park for him feeing internet into your network.
