I play CoD4, currently at 1024x768, my monitor can go 1680x1050 but I have a 7300gt...

How can you set the settings to get the best performance possible?

Getting a new card will more than triple your performance. I would just play at 800x600 on high settings, no aa/af.

indeed. your cpu is quite badly bottlenecked by your graphics card in games. In any cpu-related option e.g. physics, set it to max, and keep GPU-tied settings low.

I have a pretty high spec setup but have online settings at low, fuly optimised for higher fps and lower ping, i pwn more this way :).

filtering as high as possible, so you can see detail in the distance. depth of field off so its easier aim down sights. Model detail as high as possible, bullets off, smoke lowest settings, everything else low. AAx2.

then in console do /cl_maxpackets 100

That's a little off topic anyway. Just get a new GPU. Try and pick one up off ebay or the B/S/T section for a good price, as previously said your performance will double or more.

thats the 7300gt killing you and causing a massive bottleneck, at max go to 800x600 with that (maybe even 640x480)

but investing in atleast an 8800gs could maximize your performance A LOT

Yeah, youll want a better video card:

EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS KO Video Card - FREE Crysis PC Game, 640MB GDDR3, PCI Express, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, Video Card 640-P2-N828-A3 at TigerDirect.com

They even threw in Crysis. Thats reassurance that it will run Crysis :). Its the card I have in my machine. I get around 40FPS average with everything set to high and screen res @ 1280x1024 no aa. My processor isnt even as good as yours. I have a Core2Duo e4500. It normally runs at 2.20GHz, but I oced it to run at 3.30GHz. Basically, this is the card you need to run your games on high and get good frame rates. Btw, when I ran COD4 I got on average 80FPS with everything set to max, 1024x768 4aa :).

Hope this helped, good luck.

nah, the 640mb 8800gts gets outmatched by an 8800gt, get an 8800gts g92 (512mb or 1gb)

I know, thats why I'm recommending the 512mb, nobody ever recommends that, I'm listing the available choices

and don't tell me that the 8800gts g80 640mb beats the 8800gts g92 512mb because its untrue

id say pick up an 8800gs if you don't want to spend much....If you can spend a bit more an 8800gt would be fine...or if you can spend the amount to pick up an 8800gts g92 (512mb) then go for it)
