Doom 3 Problem No One Can Solve

Heyyo,

Doom 3 does indeed blow gameplay-wise compared to D1 and 2. Graphics are nice though.. But I was dissapointed when that one monster on D3 had actual human skin colour.. and not Pink.. cause it was scarier pink.. lol.. just play the original 2. :p

Ok, so Doom3 limits the framerate? there's probably a console command to crank it up like the source engine. I know there is for Q3A which is the same structure they used for D3, so the console commands should be the same. Check for some.

The thing doom3 lacks the most is coop. Thank god for opencoop. Google it. It's pretty good.

Btw, in the latest drivers for ati, they found work-arounds for the lowered framerates in D3, so for ati vidcards just update them drivers.. and look:

Now ati pwns nvidia in an nvidia-optimized game. yep.

Even the PCIE lineup gets a boost, and most barely trail the nvidia equivalents if not beat them:

There aren't any. The console commands for Doom 3 aren't the same as Q3A. There is a command to uncap the game's ticrate/framerate, but as this is not what Carmack designed the engine to do it will probably result in physics etc going mental.

EDIT: There's an entire discussion on the Doom 3 engine's FPS cap over on http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=53711 .

Heyyo,

Hahaha, that's hallarious. Then again, IDsoft did create the d3 physics, so I guess it's frame-dependent.. that sucks.

Now, Here, try this tweak guide, lots of stuff that'll help:

http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/doom3/

Remember to back up any original file you tweak just to be safe. ;)

Most important one for you would probably be the "com_videoRam" setting as doom3 puts this quite low, usually just 64. I put mine to I think 104 or 120.. can't remember

*sigh* Let's not start up yet another 'Doom 3's physics engine sucks; HL2's is waaaay better' arguement now, I've seen far too many all over the net since like last summer. It's old news.

www.tweakguides.com has a massive deditcated Doom 3 tweaking guide too (along with loads of other usefull stuff).

com_videoram should be set to the amount of VRAM you have (256, 512 etc).
