M Muffin Man muffin enthusiast Messages 2,724 Location new york Jan 15, 2010 #3 which core i5 are you talking about? because there are dual cores and a quad core. clark33 said: and does the i5 work with most intel motherboards? Click to expand... what do you mean? like can you just drop it into any intel mobo? no you cant. the i5 (whether a dual or quad) uses an 1156 socket, so youd need a mobo with that socket.

OP OP clark33 In Runtime Messages 263 Location Edinburgh, Scotland Jan 15, 2010 #4 I never realised that you get a dual and quad i5 but if I can afford it will make sure the mobo has a 1156 socket for support.

To the OP: Are you talking about dual core i5 versus the quad core i5? Click to expand... Yep, is there a huge difference performance wise over the quad versus the dual core i5? Im not sure if I can afford the quad core.
