Connecting to the Net - Virgin Media

Hey Guys,

One of my friends has just brough some belkin wireless router. Basicly he has a laptop at the moment that plugs into a wall mount box and he can access the net. So he brought this thing thinking it would plug straight into this port bish bash.
But for some reason when you connect the device into the wall, all what comees on is the led with a phone above it but not the internet led.

He reckons he doesn't have a cable modem and he also states he has the correct router (cable one).

Any ideas?

Current Set-Up is this.

From the Wall>Cable Box(TV)>To a wall mounted box. (At the moment he can connect to the net via the wall mounted point and cat5 cable).

But when you plug the router into this wall mount there's no internet led, just the phone led is lit).
