have you tried going to a xbox mod site to ask about your issue? You might need to go there to get an answer because you have a very unique problem.
There is a way to hook your HDD up to your computer and be able to search through it. You might need to download this file you don't have and put it there manually. I have the tools you need to hook up your HDD to your computer and you can have them free of charge....wait you are in England....haha uhh well try this...
I got it free myself from M$ because I need to transfer data from my orginal xbox to my elite. You might want to tell them you need this kit or you can find it online. You might want to make sure this is the problem before going to those troubles to get the kit.
