Burglar murdered..

I have gone to many friends houses where there are children/wifes around, always greeted with a hand gun in their hand at night, it's how things are in parts of the states.

Their attitudes are over the top for sure...but what makes me sick is that people are leaving flowers for the burglar at the house! You would only see that in an unbalanced socialist environment like the EU.

We have a right to defend our family and property here. I firmly believe in USA gun laws, I just think a substantial amount of work is needed to control them.

Lol now the intruder is packing rifles, and is shooting through doors before entering? Your and c0rr0sive's attitudes are what I don't like about the USA and the gun laws over there. Too many...people...who'd be *happy* to seek out and kill someone entering their house without permission. Makes me sick, I'm done with this thread.

You do realize there are hadguns that fire rifle rounds? Plus even a .357 or .45 won't be stopped by drywall and those are easy to conceal.

Quote where I said I would be happy to kill someone. You are confusing what I think is necessary with what I would like to do. Sometimes you have do do seriously unpleasant things to protect the people you care about and I personally think I would rather live with shooting a criminal than knowing I could have done something to save a loved one from harm but failed to do so. Hopefully I never have to make that choice though.

I feel Trotter is right, it is simply a cultural difference.

It's never my goal to physically harm someone, especially kill. But if you break into my house in the middle of the night or day I'm going to assume you're here to harm me or my family. I'm not going to waste the precious time that it would take to determine your reason for kicking my door in. I will protect my family at all costs, and in this case, it will be the cost of the intruder's life.

If I happen to incapacitate him, and feel like myself and my family is no longer in harm's way without killing him, I'd be overjoyed with that, and would not intentionally take the life of someone who I no longer feel threatened by and would turn him over to the authorities to deal with. While I hope I never have to deal with that situation, I am fully prepared to do so, and will do so quickly if need arises. I live by one rule in this case; the life of my family is more important to me than yours.

P.S. Here in Georgia we have both the Castle Doctrine, and the Stand Your Ground act in place.

Back to the original topic, please. No need to have this spin into dangerous territory.

We all know that we Americans see things very differently in situations like this. For one, guns are legal here and many people own them so that automatically changes the rules from the get-go. The right to keep and bear arms is one of the fundamental rights of the US, but not of most of the rest of the world. Handguns are illegal in the UK and down under.

If I owned a gun and someone broke into my house they would not be walking back out. I would have no way of knowing if they were armed and I would not be politely asking them their intentions. I have gone knocking on my sister-in-law's door at midnight and met her husband with a .38 in his hand, but I did not take offense to it as he was well within his rights to arm himself. I made sure to holler as I knocked to let them know it was me because I know he keeps a gun in their bedroom.

Different laws, different outlooks.

Problem is, just because it's illegal to have a gun over here does not mean people don't have them, because they do. You see on the news atleast 4 or 5 times a year that someone has been shot, and who knows how many more have just not hit the news, and then there are all those people that have guns but just didnt kill anyone. And then you have air guns which are legal.. they may not be lethal most of the time, but i sure as heck wouldn't want to be the one to test whether a .22 lead pellet hitting me at 600feet a second is going to kill.

Because guns are illegal, Knife crime is a pretty bad problem over here. Go into some deprived neighbourhoods and you can be pretty sure half of all the kids hanging out in the streets late at night have knifes on them. It's such a problem we have knife bins.. where you can dispose of your knifes penalty free, some kind of anti crime initiative i think.

A knife is more than enough dangerous for me to feel threatened to the point of killing someone if my family was home, though if i saw a failsafe way of incapacitating someone without killing them i would go for it, infact perhaps my air rifle would be perfect for that. Shooting them in the upper chest or neck area might put them down, and if not it's pretty likely to scare them enough to GTFO.

Here in Texas if somebody robs your house you shoot to kill or let them steal. If you injure them and they make it out they can sue you for bodily harm and use that money to grant bail and come back and get you. No, I'm not joking. If you have a no trespassing sign up and you kill the ****er then you're good to go. Sorry, idc what anybody says, if you are trespassing on my land and have broken in to my house then I'm going to shoot you no questions asked. Since you are allowed to sue me even though you are robbing me, that means I now have the right to kill you to protect my family and my possessions. I should also mention that 99% of break ins to family homes around here result in rape of women and all children in the house due to a county prison being 4 miles away.
I don't **** around when it comes to break ins because I have way to much to take here that I can't replace at all.
