Booting from windows

I am about ready to reinstall windows xp pro on my laptop but im having one problem. When I insert the xp cd and restart the computer it doesn't go into the menu for reinstalling windows. It just boots up normally and doesn't read the disc. My question is am I doing something wrong here? How can I get the disc to be read when I restart windows after inserting the cd? Sorry for such a silly question, but I must get it answered hehe...

You need to get into your BIOS and set it to boot from cd.

you can also hit F12 during the bootup process to choose another device to boot up on.
