Best video software

Hello,

Could you pls recommend good software to convert my minDV home videos to good quality MPEGs; and also burn these to DVDs.

I have a good DVD burner and my video camera has the necessary firewire/USB support.

you will also need something to author them into dvd's with, dvdstyler works pretty good, its free also.......can be found at the same website above

1. convert to mpeg
2. use mpeg file in dvd authoring software to generate an iso
3. burn iso to dvd

test it and make sure it works
done

One more question...what if I have an existing MPEG, AVI, etc and want to:

1. Cut a portion of it to a smaller mpeg (instead of a 30 min mpeg, cut out a 1 min clip)

2. Burn this mpeg to a DVD.

Can you recommend software for this?

try avidemux or virtualdubmod or search thru some of the free editors in the tools section of videohelp.com


both avidemux and virtualdubmod do a pretty decent job and are free to download and use, they also handle lots of different formats

avidemux, google for that, virtualdubmod is on videohelp.com

once edited you still have to convert them into a format usable on a dvd, the mpeg2 format for dvd's is pretty specific---those specs are listed in the left hand side of the videohelp.com website, just click on what is/dvd and scroll down
