Accessing the net from laptops

Hi, im a newbie to the forum (howsitgoin everyone!)so i apologise for not doing a search first on this subject, way to many pages to read! Does anyone know if it is possible to Get an internet service providor/ laptop deal, that can guarantee pretty much all round access to the net-i mean so i can sit and relax on a hilltop or on the beach etc, and access the net & run my website/work without needing to be near a 'router' ( i dont know the proper term-just quoting what a friend said the connection thing was called!). You probably guessed i havent got a clue what current technology can do at the minute, so be gentle on me! thanks chaps, hope you can help.

Verizon makes aircards that go into the PCMCIA slots. If you have cellphone service, you have internet service. $89.99 a month here for that.
