A concerned computer user!

I live in a flat whit several other people. We all share the internet connection. Now recently I have become concerned. Lets say one of the people commits a computer crime or sends out insulting e-mails or the like. Now if one day police arrive they would search probably every ones computers including mine. I would be held for questioning and the like. My question is would it be possible to some how monitor the LAN on a daily basis and see what goes through it. I could run a server 24/7 but I do not know how to pull of some thing like this? Does any one have any idea?

Well, each of your computers would be using a different MAC address. If you have a decent router, then you might be able to track what each MAC address is doing.
