4850 is still dropping down as low as $160 I've seen it, with free shipping. Most people will be getting it to save $40 over a card that performs better in some cases. Some won't because of black pcb's :D

Oh and the 4870x2 > 2 4870's in crossfire by 20% was it? So I wouldn't be drop dead suprised if it performed like gurusan said.

ohhh yea the gtx+ can use the whole "PhysX" thing, so on games that take advantage of that i'm sure it'll pull ahead of the 4850.

anyone have any info on that anyone? last time i looked at it, it was still the card by itself before nvidia bought them. It only helped with a handful of games, so has it gotten more use lately?

Havok is gonna be optimized in AMD dual-cores, quad-cores, n i think Crossfire too in the future.

Havok is better supported then PhysX.

if GTX 280 > 4870 i doubt 4870x2 > GTX280 SLI..........and even if it does i doubt you could consider it being "slaughtered"
Crossfire tends to scale better than SLI.
Also, this is two GPU's on one PCB, so it's probably more optimised than two separate cards.
The gtx+ will be a good fight for the 4850. Maybe the 4850 beats it at a few games, but I'm sure the gtx+ wins when it comes to other things like heat.
The 4850 is cheaper, and quite overclockable.

ATI can do physics too, as well as PhysX (unofficially)

in addition to that aren't they doing a whole new bridge design, like different from the previous 3870x2 that is supposed to be like UBER SICK?

Showing that HD4850 (overclocked) performing better than GTX 280 in one game and in one particular resolution doesn't prove that his HD4850 is overall faster

Moreover, at resolution 1920x1200 and above the HD4850 starts to show its weakness in some games

Here is an example

cod4.jpg

From 1680x1050 to 1920x1200 the HD4850 have lost much more FPS than GTX 280. Actually, on GTX 280 there was almost no difference between 1680x1050 and 1920x1200

Furthermore, the GTX 280 was 37% faster at 1920x1200 and it was 56% faster at 2560x1600 in that game. It hard for me to believe that overclocking HD4850 would make that difference, specially at high resolution because HD4850 would probably be limited by its low memory at those resolutions

Here is another example

At high resolution, the HD4850 has lost more FPS than GTX 280 have lost.

...........................

Sorry, but testing HD4850 in one game and in one particular resolution doesn't prove anything. He could for example run the benchmark Crysis at 1920x1050 at high setting instead of 1680x1050 and very high

i agree with marron, the gtx280 does very ver y well with aa, itbarely takes a hit, one gtx280 can run crysis at 1680x1050, with 16x aa and still be smooth. over 25fps.

again, the vast majority of people don't play at higher than 1680x1050

for the people that do, they can get a GTX 280. Or even a 1GB-2GB 4850. Or a 4870 X2

though even with the GTX 280's higher performance at higher resolutions vs a 512MB 4850, you have to admit that for the price, the 4850 still has it beat.

That's one of the big attractions with RV770 cards: their price : performance

Not true, if you use the Mod shown on Youtube for changing the Fan Speed, it does run really cool, idk if its better than a GTX+ but it could run cool

ya but the low memory bus on the 4850 wotn allow 16xaa with out much of a hit. yunlike the gtx280, so i dont think its possible for a 4850 to be faster then the gtx280, alltho its still an amazing card for its price.
