Before Firefox came about, Microsoft had no reason to update the technology of IE because it was basically the only option for web browsing. This is why it has become so insecure. Now that Firefox has taken some of the market share, Microsoft better do something to make IE better.
But don't count on them improving IE, they'll just sue Mozilla for "copyright and patent infringments."
