Hi, Im a computer novice and I pretty much use my PC for fun. Well my roommate just got a PC and I have internet through cable, what we would like to do is set up a network using only the one cable modem/one service

How do we do that? Can we do that?

We have a router and I have a network card in my PC, what else do I need and what do I do.

Help!!

if you already have CAT cables (they look like wide telephone cables) than you are ready to go. i assume the router has built in switch? this can be determined by looking at the router, if you see many connections to plug in CAT cable than you do have built in switch.

if so, hook the cable modem to the router and connect each computer to the router from their network cards. usually everything else is automatic with windows.

Thanks a million!

Yeah I have all that you asked about, but only one network card, the one in my PC.

So we do need to Network Cards then?

Someone told me we only need one..and that's what confused me.
