Help With Laptop Cooling

i need help with laptop cooling!!! my laptop overheats when im using multiple programs and just shuts down. im positive this is the issue cause when i touch the bottom of my laptop right underneath the heatsink thing i could like cook an egg on it. the fans on the bottom of the laptop are kinda crappy but i figured out if i elevate it it doesnt over heat as much/ as fast but it still does. is there something that will allow me to get more air underneat my laptop. right now its on a stand and i could fit something about 2 inches tall underneath it. i basically use it as a desktop only move it when i need to but thats like once a month or not even.
