any specific cable in mind?

Any DVI-D cable should be fine. If you are running a DVI cable right now look inside. If it has all the pins there then it is DVI-D and will work with your monitor. No sense in wasting money on gender benders if you don't have to

HDMI and DVI use the same digital signal. The only difference is HDMI can carry audio.
The downfall of HDMI though, is your monitor could be recognized as a TV due to the HDMI controller on your monitor. If that's the case you'll have to go through a lot of settings to make the colors and brightness look right.
