Six cores. Pointless for gaming?

Hey guys, Im going to upgrade to a new pc soon (when guildwars2 comes out) however I was thinking of going for a high frequency quad core instead of a six core system because they game probably wont be coded for a six core system. I take it this will be the case with most other games too. Wont this make it pretty much pointless to buy a six core system? Since two of those cores will just be sitter there?
