Has anyone brought out a Gyroscope based Mice or pointing device ?
These days there are solid state gyros avilabe which are being used
in digital watches to show directions. Has anyone harnessed this
technology for use in pointing devices like mice ? This idea popped
up when I was looking at how optical mouse works and figured that
shining a light all the time to track movement seemed to be a complete
waste of energy.

I am visualising a glove with a few MEMS like Gyro sensors which
will track my hand movement and the clicking
of my fingers without being tied down to a surface.
I could be moving my hand in the air!!
Does away with mouse related injuries as well.

Let me know if someone already has this idea on board or
in the market.

You have a great day

Actually there is, I can't remember the name though. My instructors all have them. They are optical for use on the surface, or can use gyroscopes for presentations, really great stuff.

moving my hand and arm in the air thoughout the workday can be a workout since i have big arms. i rather use an optical track ball mouse and rest my arm on the desk instead.

hey i think that this discussion may be in the benefit of further technology . i hope i m correct.

FANUC (robotics company, mostly for GE) had them on their pc's at the international tool show in chicago this past weekend... it was un-b-freakin-leavable. it looks like a phaser (from star trek) and you push the button in a trigger like fashion and move your wrist around. i think it was called a gyropointer or gyromouse... i forget. :(
