My windows 98 scanner is USB.

I never really had a problem with 98 SE, I would probally still be using it now if there was still support for it.

uhhhhh i don't recall ever seeing a serial scanner (Universal Serial Bus scanners excluded), most scanners use a parallel port connection.

USB, Paralell or SCSI. Serial is WAAAAY too slow for scanners

My parent's first digital camera, from 1999-2001 (cant remember), used serial connection to download pictures on our old 133Mhz 586. That was painfully slow, especially saving to floppyies.

well a "parallel" more IS a serial port. its a 24-pin serial port.

i have a scanner from back then thats scsi/24-pin serial/usb/ethernet (yes ethernet lol)
