And that is where I am going to bite my tonge and on say anything further before this thread turn too political. :D
You do not want to see me start on North Korea

No, Harper, we don't. I'd rather not have this thread hijacked in that direction, thanks! :(

Anyway, if you examine the situation more closely (from this article and others) the Chinese are more making an effort to crack down on software piracey in their country than they are actually censoring their public.

Either way, it's a win-win situation for us Americans, so let them. I mean, what could be better than having a bunch of worthless software pirates imprisoned by the Chinese?

the only reason the games are being pirated is because they were censored and disallowed in the first place. i know how anti-piracy you are, but in this case the ONLY reason they are being pirated is because they were disallowed and censored in the first palce. :D

They have been doing that for a long time. They just had to step up on that ever since they took back Hong Kong (one of the pirate capitals) a few years back.

Last time I check, Chinese prisons are a place where the lock you up and throw away the key. Ppl like UNICEF are a myth there.

GOOD FOR THEM!

"i know how anti-piracy you are..."
You make it sound like being anti-piracy is a bad thing... :freak:

Anyway, if the Chinese don't like the censorships of their government, they should either endevour to change it, or leave. The Chinese have always been very protective of their national identity and culture, and outside influences are often sternly met. No one should be surprised about the bans. China's policy with dealing with outside interaction has been the same for over two thousand years. The Chinese can leave their country if they don't like it, and many do. Those who stay either are unphased by the censorship because that's the way China is, or they live with it, or they're trying to change it. China has always been in a struggle to maintain its identity and culture purity, and ignoring the bootlegging that undermines their laws doesn't help them.

However, stepping up on fighting the piracy is not only good for them, but good for us. So let them.

the only reason i said i know how anti-piracy you are is because youre letting that aspect of the situation mislead on the big picture....

ummmm its not that easy to do those sort of things in china as it is in another country. you get SHOT for those things.... when they protest they go to jail if theyre lucky. ever see the famous picture of the college kid in front of the tank in tiananmen square? wanna know what happens next...

http://edition.cnn.com/resources/video.almanac/1989/index2.html

this goes beyond piracy issues. i was just saying there was a reason they pirated those games, not to simply get around paying for them, but because they dont agree with their governments views. thats how you have to "endevour to change things" in a communist country.

as for leaving... thats not such an easy thing. they have to have passes to go to the grocery store at a certain time, you only leave the country if youre coming back. thats why they appear on our docks in crates full of their own feces and puke.

but yes there are aspects of their culture that outdate most any and should be upheld and im not saying every chinese college kid should download porn as protest. there are some morals that are worth upholding. but its not as sunshine and flowery as just stealing a game.

My point was that China has always been heavy on censorship, for thousands of years. The fact that they're going around banning American video games that are really rather skewed against them is understandable and typical of the Chinese.

If the Chinese want something else to ban, fine. If in that process they crush the piracy rings centered there, then so be it. I'll spill no tears for dead software pirates.

As for the citizens getting oppressed during this action, nothing's changed. China's always been that way.
