on some servers it looks like everyone has around 300-400 except the host who goes around pwning everyone

It all depends on the server. If you are going for a real gaming server and not one hosted by a fellow player you should get lower than or around 100 Ping. But if you are connecting to someone hosting a game yeah the ping will be super high.

I usually join servers hosted by other players because the real gaming servers are full of pros and result it fewer kills atleast with player hosted servers there are n00bs and more chances to kill

the only game i play online right now is halo. I am trying to get crysis to work but it keeps saying stuff like the version isn't the same as the server version. All the people on halo servers play really cheap

I havent played Halo or Halo 2 on the servers yet. The only game i have played is CS:S on servers as i dont play much online.
