Hi all,

Ok long and short of it is this. We have a flat Microsoft 2003 LAN at work with about 300+ XP Pro clients. We are using VLANs connected via switches...

Two of my switches have suddenly stopped pinging and I can no longer telnet to them. The switches are still functional, as clients are connecting to the network and receiving an IP address from the DHCP server.

So I'm guessing that the switches may have lost the static IP originally assigned to them, perhaps The problematic switches are a HP Procurve 2650 (J4899A) and a Procurve 4000M.

Yesterday, I tried to connect via the console port on both switches using Hyperterminal using a laptop. I used one of those RJ45 -> DB9 RS232 serial cables, but to no avail. Baud ratings and everything was set accordingly in the hyper terminal session.

What cable do I need to connect to the aforementioned switches via a console session? Both switches have a 9 pin serial (RS-232) port and I was thinking that a null-modem cable may do the trick?

Thanks all.
