When I go onto the internet the main tool bar on the desk top becomes blocked by the internet window where as that was not the case before. If I want to minimize or exit the internet i have to do it manually through the file menu.

Is there a specific question you are asking ? Is it that you want to know how to return to the default settings. It must be within the browser somewhere, just a guess. Or maybe within the panel settings (the panel is the bar at the top by default in Ubuntu, for example.)

What flavor of Linux are you using ? I am starting out with Ubuntu, so maybe I can help figure it out for you if you confirm whether or not it is Ubuntu you are using.

I am using ubuntu as well. The desktop panel no longer stays at the top like it used to. It is now completely covered by the firefox panel and I can no longer adjust the volume.

Rigiht click the panel and see if there is an "always on top" option somewhere in the right click menu, or the properties menu.
