you wont be able to max out the graphics...maybe about med to high.
make sure you have 2gb or ram, most games right now are recomm 2gb.

just to be able to play some of these newer games will make me happy... But it should go pretty smoothly if I buy all that? So I unplug the old card and put the new one there?

yeah that all there is to it.
You will have to plug in the pci cord from the psu to the card though...
im pretty sure the 7900gs needs it.
