Well all those games you just mentioned are games that striaght gamers play alright. I know the best XP is the 3200 witch runs on a 2.2ghz 400mhz fsb 512kb cache.

If your counting on a AMD XP for gaming without a cooling system. You might have some problems, unless you have a monster video card and Ram.

Personally i recommend you get a Athlon 64 bit, (socket 939). For gaming, or atleast Athlon 64 bit socket 754. AMD XP arent cut out for the hardcore gamer unless you really over clock it. 400mhz FSB is really weak. So i do not recommend any pc gamer to go with a AMD XP.

The Athlon 64 2800+ witch runs at 1.6ghz 1600fsb 128kb L1 Cache 512kb L2 cache is a nice processor. You can buy it for around 130-140$. The Athlon 64 2800 markets it at 1.8ghz but its really 1.6ghz.

Hey,
I have $500 to spend...
I am thinking about getting a SOYO "SY-CK8 DRAGON Plus" nForce3 with these specs:

Supported CPU: Socket 754 AMD Athlon64 Processors
Chipset: NVIDIA nForce3 150
FSB: 400/800MHz
RAM: 3x DIMM support non-ECC un-buffered DDR400/333/266 Max 2GB
IDE: 3x UltraDMA 133 up to 6 Devices
Slots: 1x AGP 8X, 6x PCI
Ports: 2xPS2,1xLPT,2xCOM,6xUSB2.0(Rear 4),1xLAN,Audio Ports
Onboard Audio: CMI9739 6-Channels Audio
Onboard LAN: 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet
Onboard SATA/RAID: 2x Serial ATA, RAID 0/1
Form Factor: ATX

That is $99 + $5 shipping (~$400 left)
OK... So I have ~$400 left to buy a graphics card, processor(cooling), ram, harddrive, a cd drive + cdrw drive (mabe a dvdrw if i have enough left over , but not essential), and case and power supply....
I already have a pretty good monitor (19")
I also have WinXP professional from my previous computer...

Am I forgetting anything?
Suggestions for the remaining components with budget in mind would be greatly appreciated!

Spartan, please listin. If you are serious about creating a custom gaming computer, your gonna need more then 500$. Its as simple as that. It takes time, i been working for money for my computer for 3 months. I been ordering parts every check. Going all out with 500$ wont get you anything.

Personal recommendation, stick with Abit and Asus for mobo's.
