yo trust me, the 8600GTS is a rip off. The gap between the 8600GTS and the 8800GT is tremendous. Wait at least for the 256MB version which will replace the 8600GTS price-wise. If you're really that pressed to buy something now, the HD3850, I believe, will at least be a better option than the 8600GTS in that price range.

OMG man! Seriously, get off the idea of an 8600GTS, it's utter garbage. Treat it like the dry remnants one would find in their butt crack.

I pretty much highlighted the only viable options you have in order of price.

8800GTS G92 Revision
512MB 8800GT
HD3870
256MB 8800GT
HD3850
X1950PRO

SLI is almost not worth it unless you get top end performance on a card worth half as much as its top end counterparts (like the 512MB 8800GT) and if you're playing at monstrous resolutions. SLI is of no use in any other situation. Getting a superior, single graphics card is always a better choice. It does not, I repeat, DOES NOT give you double the performance, it ranges between a non-existent to AT BEST a 40% increase in performance for double the price. Not worth it IMO.
