Hi everyone, I have recently bought a laptop to use in my living room and have a desktop top upstairs connected to my Lexmark X5150 printer how do I go about printing remotely from my laptop. Many thanks for helping me.

we need more info

1. your OS's
2. do you have a WI FI card in the desktop
2. what format is the WI FI ( 802.11 A, B, G, N ...ETC ) ea device
3. Do you have a WI FI router
4. does your notebook have WI FI ?

I am running windows xp on both pc and laptop my pc has a ethernet port wifi in my laptop is 802.11a/b/g and yes I have a wifi router, many thanks for this help.

you will need to get a WI FI pci card ( i would stay away from the USB ones  ) for the desktop.

you will need to create a peer to peer on both PC / notebook of the same name

turn off ALL firewalls even XPs built in one, for the time being

you have to have a log on account with a password on each pc, both PC's must also have each others,

if xp home , the guest account must not be disabled.

make sure in tcp/ip props that the radio button is set for "obtain ip / dns address auto"

enable dhcp in the router.

share the printer or folders

only share folders , do not share the "C:\" drive

capture printer from other pc

Thanks very much LA1 much appreciated for the info I shall give it a try when I get a WI FI Pci card. Cheers the noo
