What do these terms mean?

I was reading the statistics provided by my siteÂ’s host, concerning visitors. There were tables and tables of numbers and odd termsÂ… most of which I couldnÂ’t tell what are the differences between eachÂ… unfortunately the online help doesnÂ’t provide a detailed glossary. Could someone help me understand a couple of them? Some are:

-Unique visitors
-Number of visits
-Pages
-Hits

(To me all the above seem the same! WhatÂ’s the diff between unique visits, number of visitsÂ… what do they mean by pagesÂ… *sigh* my questions will never end =) )

Unique visitors are unique visitors. They are only counted once by tracking their IP.
Number of visits is the total number of visits to any of your pages, not counting each loaded page if they see it is the same IP. There is some time span, if the visitor opens 4 pages within a minute it is counted as 1 visit by that visitor.
Pages is the number op pages loaded. I don't know the difference between pages and hits.
