Seagate
apparently went ahead of the planned CES announcement and has decided to detail and officially announce its 7mm-thick Momentus 2.5-inch hard drives aimed at the netbook and thin notebook market.

In addition to the 25 percent slimmer case, the new drives will be pretty much similar to its 9.5mm brethren as it features SATA 3.0Gbps interface, 8MB of cache and a working speed of 5400RPM.

The one information that wasn't available before is the capacity and it looks like the new Momentus will only be available as a 160 and 250GB version, which is enough as most netbooks already feature either a 160GB hard drives, and those with 250GB and over are quite rare.

We are quite sure that Seagate will make a show out of the new 7mm Momentus at CES 2010, and it should be available for OEMs and other partners in January 2010.
