I am especially excited for this because I probably spent the least amount of console time with the SNES. Never really got further than Super Mario World.

Kotaku reported that they had a conversation with Nintendo about the supply (or lack thereof) and Nintendo claims that they will be making significantly more units than the NES Classic.

I wouldn't count out a longer production run. Nintendo said they have no current plans to continue after 2017 but that doesn't necessarily mean that they won't go into 2018. Could be they are just trying to drum up demand like their track record dictates.
