I have a home network of five desktops, two laptops and an old proliant server. I have a router, switch and WAP. The laptops connect through the WAP and most of the Desktops and the Server through the switch.
I want the server to be set up as a proxy server. Some people have told me, I can do it and others have told me I can't. I know in theory what a proxy is, but am sure if I can set this up at home. I have a cable connection and got stuck at setting static ip's for my desktops while setting this up, since my ISP server is on DHCP. Every time I give a desktop a static IP it can't access the net.

theproblems with your desktops and static ips is prolly that they dont have dns addresses which are usually set by dhcp.

you can setup the proxy no problem....*crosses fingers* lol. just setup the cable connection on a machine, install a proxy software, and setup your clients to connect to that machine for the proxy.
