A leading technology company is set to launch a new digital music file format which will embed additional content for fans including lyrics, news updates and images in what could be a successor to the ubiquitous MP3 file.

I know, I'm just saying that MP3's successor is already here, and it's called Ogg Vorbis. and it's open-source, unlike I imagine MDNA will be.

MP3s successor should logically be FLAC. Storage is cheap these days, so why not.

Makes sense for PCs but not for media players, like I have a 32GB which is almost full with MP3s, going with all FLAC wouldn't be a good idea for me

Yes, but as storage increases and SSDs get cheaper and bigger, it won't be a problem.

"lyrics, news updates and image" No thanks. Firstly id3 already exists, why not use something when it is already the standard? Secondly I don't want any of that stuff, I don't even want all the stuff that id3 allows...
