I was wondering if different Network cards can affect ping times?

Should I get a new network card? Im using the on-board stuff right now. I heard the on-board stuff takes system resources? by how much? Will I even feel a difference on my computer if I add a PCI card in, or its not really noticeable anyways?

I wonder if a U.S. Robotic network card is good or not???

For 10/100, I prefered Realtek ChipSets.

I have not had any happy memories of any thing U.S. Robotics.

It veries with different game rooms, I guess ping 50-200, avg 80 I guess.

Damn! I wish I could get that..... I am lucky to see any thing under 350ms down here.

What if I get a gigabit lan network card, will that help my ping times?

Only if you ROUTER has gigabit lan. So far, I have not seen ANYTHING on the market.
And last time i spoke with NETGEAR / D-LINK and a few others.... there is bugger all market demand for a Cable/DSL Router with Gigabit ports.

Again, it will not reduce your ping by much.

Your LAN ping is most likely under a milisecond anyways. Gigabit lan also will not help

Via my Network Status Window in what ever MMORPG that I can currently playing.

350MS is my avarage.
500MS it start cutting down on my other downloads.
600MS + I start asking questions to my guild members if they are laggy tonight.
900MS starts to become unplayable.

Your PING the single that goes out to the IP address. It is measures in milli-seconds.
So if some one ask you, what is your PING or LATENTCY or MS in a game, they are normally talking about the same thing.


Here is some thing for you to try....


Under Windows do the following :-

START --> RUN
Type CMD
Hit enter
Type PING www.tech-forum.net
