Keeping cool is far more important than keeping quiet - heat can kill PCBs, noise from your fans can't. One of my colleagues recently got a new heatsink/fan assembly for his 8800 - it had three fans on instead of the stock one. Of course, his case also has a well-implemented airflow system, whereby the processor fan is sending air towards the back of the case and, directly behind it, there is a case fan sucking air out of the case. I would imagine that is one of the things that helps to cool his case down overall and is possibly something you might want to consider?
