Building a first gaming PC; looking for parts

I plan to try my hand at overclocking, although I can't see myself going all-out very soon.

If that's the case, do you think it wise to invest in such an expensive motherboard on a 50/50 chance?

Perhaps not; I'm just looking for a fast, reliable mobo that'll perform admirably with the rest of the parts.

Any ASRock Z77 board will do just that, or even their H77 line. There are only slight differences between say that OC Formula and the Extreme 3. The biggest difference being the PWM is stronger for higher OC and that's about it.

So how about switching to the mid-size version of the case to save some money and space and replace the mobo with an ASRock Z77 Extreme4? Too bad it's sold out on Newegg.
Could also think about the ASRock Z77 Pro4.
