Audio PC

Well, my friend asked me if I would build him a PC for his audio recording/editing. He has a local band, and he records onto his PC, goes over the music/edits it. He said he has a budget of around $800 (he may be willing to go over a little bit, but I'll have to talk to him more about it tomorrow), so these are the parts I picked out:

Case: Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
Mobo: Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 Allendale 2.0GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail
CPU: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-G31MX-S2 LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
RAM: Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
HDD: Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda ES ST3320620NS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
GPU: Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
PSU: Newegg.com - OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS ATX12V / EPS12V 600W Power Supply 100 - 240 V CB, CE, CSA, UL, FCC - Retail
Optical drive: Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM
Sound card: Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail
OS: Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2B 1 Pack - OEM (he said he would like to stick with XP for this machine).

Also, can anybody suggest a high quality Audio Interface Card? He said he would like to have 1/4" jacks on it. I'll swap out the current sound card for a high quality AI card if anybody can suggest one?

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

Re: Audio PC

I would check out some professional sound editing cards. I dont know, but im guessing gaming sound cards dont have much in the way of recording/editing capabilities. If he wants to record his band, then he might want stuff like 1/4 inch ports, midi inputs/outputs and so on. There are pro music stores around that sell very good ones - it might be worth checking out.

Found one on Amazon for $70 + shipping. Know of any that has 1/4" jacks though, as well? If there aren't any, that's fine too. I'll just let him know that I couldn't find one.

Well, only in my country, lol. Your musician friend actually might the best to ask - he probably knows where the best/cheapest stores are.

Lol, dunno I guess... He's coming over tomorrow, so I'll have to ask him what he thinks.

Thanks for the links, Motoxer. I'll show him those, and see if he'd rather bump up to one of those, since that looks like what he's looking for.

Thanks Apokalipse, appreciate it. He's coming over soon, so I'll see how much he's willing to spend on an interface card.
