Terminal in Ubuntu?

how do i get to the terminal in ubuntu like out of xserver so i can install nvidia drivers?

which drivers are you installing? those from the ubuntu repositories or the nvidia download?

There are very good nvidia drivers in the repositories, quicker, easier, and way less painful.

nvidia drivers are meant to be compiled against the kernel in use, and done while not in X, you can take your chances with a precompiled nvidia module, but I wouldnt

I agree for certain distros, but Ubuntu is meant to be "Linux For Everyone", basically init 3 > apt-get kernel-resource > ... command line free.

The nvidia drivers supplied by the Ubuntu are easy to install for "linux newbies"

Try control alt F1 and control alt F7 to get back to X
